Müller Pud Corners

The two new Müller pud corners came out a while ago but I've waited until I saw single tubs for sale before buying which is why my review is a little late.

They're quite small for Müller corners at only 85g but they do for a quick snack and for the health conscious are made with over 75% skimmed milk - something I wish I'd noticed before buying these.

First up I tried Toffee with milk chocolate coated digestives.

I tried the chocolate digestive balls first and they were pretty tasty. They did actually taste like tiny little balls of chocolate digestives so that's that.

Next I tried the dairy dessert (not yoghurt), and it threw me straight away. Firstly, the dessert was so watery. Some Müller yoghurts, especially the light ones, do develop a bit of a watery film on the top so I saved my judgement on the texture for once I'd stirred it all up. But the flavour was what really confused me with that first mouthful. I double checked I'd picked the right one, as my first impression on the flavour was coffee!? Toffee and coffee might sound alike but they aren't really two flavours that taste alike, strange.

Once I'd mixed it all in the coffee flavour disappeared, maybe I just picked the one weirdly flavoured part out of the whole part but more likely the whole concentration of flavour was on that one spoon. To put it nicely (honestly) the dairy dessert was kind of crap. It was far too watery and that has to be because skimmed milk is used. Does anyone even drink skimmed milk? It's just barely milk flavoured water and if it's used here to keep the calories down its pointless, maybe next time they should just put a few less biscuits in. The rest of the tub the dessert had no flavour - coffee/toffee or anything it was plain and the only redeeming feature was the small crunchy chocolate digestives. Thankfully I had a lot of them. Next time though I'll just buy a packet of chocolate digestives though.

I put off the chocolate with milk & white coated cereal balls for as long as I could but it's only got a couple of days left in date and I was hungry so I gave in and ate it.

Once again I tried the milk and white chocolate coated cereal balls first, to pay extreme attention to detail I noticed the white were slightly sweeter and the milk chocolate a little milkier but to be perfectly honest I couldn't tell the difference mixed in the dessert.
I didn't bother trying the dessert separately beforehand, judging by previous experience I wasn't missing out on much.

As I said at the start, these corners are slightly smaller and normally I wouldn't moan but while they've reduced the amount of dessert you get, you still get the same amount of pieces to mix in. While that's good because the mix ins are the tasty part it makes it ridiculously hard to actually mix them in.

This is actually after I'd stirred them in and so I was left with two options the first I tried - carry on mixing - and ended up with small cereal balls all over the table and floor. The second I was reluctantly left with, the top layer an extremely sweet 90% cereal pieces mixed with a little dessert and the bottom layer a watery, flavourless cereal-less dessert. As I expected, the dessert was just as disappointing as the toffee corner.

Another 5/10. And only because of the amount of mix ins

Cadbury Desserts

I'm back reviewing snacks available in England, I still have one foreign goody to try but I'll get to that later in the week. For today I have two new desserts out of a range of three from Cadbury. Don't look for these in the chilled aisle if you want to buy them though, they're in with the custards, jellies and Angel Delights strangely!
The desserts are made with Cadbury milk chocolate (note the lack of the word Dairy before the milk!) and are in a split pot/corner yoghurt style.

The first of the two I tried was toffee clusters. "A milk chocolate dessert with a side of toffee crunch clusters". I tried both sides separately before mixing them together and going by the chocolate I'm even more confused! It's not Dairy Milk that's for sure, either the older recipe or the new but it tastes exactly how I'd imagine the generic milk chocolate Cadbury use, melted down and eaten with a spoon would taste. I took one look at the ingredients and put it down again pretty sharpish as the more I think about it the more I don't really want to know how they keep it that consistency!!

I tried the toffee cluster next, at first they were very crunchy but gave way to a nice chewy texture which I did enjoy. The taste was exactly the same (to me) as a sugar free Werthers original (never ever eat a whole bag of those!!) they were slightly mild to begin but did get stronger as I chewed.

Once I'd given them a stir together I was suprised to find the toffee flavour actually got stronger once it was mixed in with the chocolate, probably due to more per mouthful but it did stand out against the chocolate and the crunchy, chewy pieces really went well with the super smooth dessert. Coming to the end of the pot though, I ran out of toffee clusters and this dessert became too rich and sweet even for a sugar fiend like me. There is a plain version of this available that I have in a cupboard (why not the fridge? I don't like it!) that I'm pretty put off of trying due to how quickly this became sickly.

Next up was Fudge pieces, the chocolate is identical so I'll save going through all that again!

The side of fudge pieces are tiny little squares that reminded me of the type Dr Oetker and the likes make for cake decorating. They are a very soft, more traditional style type of fudge but the similarities ended there sadly. The fudge I tried alone was pretty much flavourless, the texture was there - lovely and chewy and I did get a faint fudge taste but to be completely honest I think it's because I was looking for it.

Once mixed in with the dessert, any fudge flavour that may have existed disappeared. It was completely overpowered by that sickly sweet taste and where I originally liked the texture it let it down here. Long after the chocolate slid down (that's the only way to describe it - it's that smooth) I was left, with every spoonful, chewing a mouthful of bland fudge. I really love fudge but I did not like it at all here.

The toffee clusters bump the first up to a 6/10 but the fudge is given a generous 5/10 - that chocolate is just too much for me and they creep me out that they aren't refrigerated but are still in date for another 6 months...

Cadbury Roses pots of joy - Coffee escape

Today I tried Cadbury Roses pots of joy - coffee escape, it's a "Smooth and creamy dessert made with melted Cadbury milk chocolate with a layer of coffee fondant".

From the top it looks the same as every other pots of joy I've tried, I didn't notice a coffee scent before I'd tried it but there is a very thick layer of melted chocolate to get through.
I tried the top layer first and my immediate thoughts were of how sweet this was! The chocolate flavour was there but that first mouthful was like eating pure sugar. I don't remember thinking this on any of the other pots I've tried so maybe the recipe has been slightly tweaked, it could well be just me though. Once the sweetness had dulled down slightly I was sure I could taste the coffee -the chocolate itself isn't coffee flavoured, it's just in a fondant on the bottom, I thought maybe I was imagining it but the taste was identical once I'd got to the fondant just stronger so the coffee did seem to have seeped through. The chocolate layer feels exactly how you'd imagine a melted chocolate to feel, it's thick, creamy and rich.

The coffee soon appeared and it's actually really nice, it's not too strong and mellows out the sweet chocolate. Together they made a lovely combination.
The pots are only little but for me it was the perfect size, I don't think I could manage much more of the chocolate in one sitting but I'd gladly eat a tub of the coffee alone!

Cadbury Creme Egg Pots of Joy

After all the fuss recently over the recipe change for Cadbury Creme Eggs the pots of joy version caught my eye and I thought I'd give it a try.

It must've been squished in my fridge or tipped upside down but mine looked pretty sorry for itself.

The unmistakable scent of pure sugar is evident as soon as you remove the foil lid and that can probably be explained by the first two ingredients - water and sugar solution (water, sugar). What do you expect with a Creme Egg themed product though, the fondant is the whole point. What makes this a little different to your ordinary Cadbury dessert/mousse though is that this isn't mousse as I expected but a fondant with melted milk chocolate.

In my pot the whole bottom was the Creme part with a thick layer of the melted chocolate on top. It's a nice dessert, extremely sweet though so probably for the best this is only a small 70g tub, one was plenty enough for me in one go and I have a mega sweet tooth. I'll probably buy another pack before the limited run is up.

Cadbury Mini Eggs Chocolate Dessert

Its January which means it's time for the Easter products to come out, well they've been out since December but I really couldn't bring myself to buy any before Christmas!

I love the Cadbury chocolate desserts, him indoors usually chooses the flake  and I have the buttons, I saw this mini egg version in Lidl and I'm on a total crunch kick at the moment so I had to buy this!

I had a Creme egg on Friday, and while I still enjoyed it (and maybe this is my brain playing tricks) but it did taste different to me - less rich, I know the fondant inside hasn't changed - but it certainly didn't taste as fulfilling to me as last year, still good though. I'm pleased to report, in my opinion of course, that the mini eggs are as good as ever. The chocolate dessert (I don't know what else to call it, it's not really a yogurt and it's not mousse) smells wonderful when you peel the lid back, sweet and chocolatey everything you associate with Cadbury. I was wondering where the mini eggs where though...

FIVE!
Five teeny weeny mini eggs, what a rip off!! I was not impressed, luckily what this lacks in mini eggs it more than makes up for in taste. Who would have  known liquid chocolate would add so much to the mini egg. These are seriously good I just wish there were more so for that reason

I really was annoyed at my 5 eggs!!
