Marks & Spencer Halloween Sweets

It's September and for some reason this year all the Christmas chocolates and products seem to be out before the Halloween. I did manage to find a couple of Halloween themed bags of sweets in Marks and Spencers, there were chocolates too but the prices were extortionate - it seems you can charge whatever you like for tiny one bite chocolates now as long as you put them in a fancy Halloween box..

Wicked Witches Stockings

Slithery raspberry and lime flavoured jelly sweets.

It would be hard to miss these sweets as the orange packaging really stands out amongst all the Percy Pigs!

The sweets look great, they're a mixture of pinky red and green and all I could think about while I was eating them was the witches feet under the house in the Wizard of Oz!
The smelt fantastic, very vibrant and strong lime and raspberry scents and they had quite a chewy almost rubbery texture.
I tried a lime juice witch stocking first and I have to say I was pretty dissapointed. It's a nice lime flavour - not overly sweet or sour but it is so much milder than the smell. The raspberry is the stronger flavour of the two, and again it's a good raspberry just mild compared to what I expected. The raspberry did get stronger as I worked through the bag but the lime stayed mild throughout.
They're just quite dull in taste to be truthful, I'm trying to work out using the packet, if natural ingredients are used - it doesn't explicitly say so but I can't see any funny numbers or chemicals listed, so that might explain why.
A shame they don't taste as good as they smell

Happy Owlloween

Cola flavour jelly sweets.

I really love the attention to detail Marks & Spencer put into how their sweets look, I know it's really about how they taste but it's nice to have something pleasing to look at too!
As with the Witches Stockings they smelt good, a quite strong typical cola sweet scent. They're reasonably large and felt like they would be an ordinary foam sweet.

But sneaky M&S have made it so the Owls bellies are little pockets with a jelly like filling.
The cola flavour was good, the foam parts of the sweet have quite a mellow taste but the jelly part is nice and strong. I really liked the play on textures though, each bite was initially the chewy foam then the burst (that doesn't sound very nice but they are creepy Halloween sweets!) of the jelly pocket inside.
It's a bit of a weird sensation, it felt like the jelly part popped but it's not liquid at all it's actually quite solid but either way the mix of the two consistencies was lovely especially with the more concentrated cola flavour.
I really liked these and I'll stock up before the Halloween run ends!

Tic Tac Mixers - Cherry Cola

Tic Tacs haven't found their way into my shopping basket for a loooong time. I'm not sure why, but the Cherry Cola Mixers sounded far too interesting to pass up on.

I thought there might be a few brown ones or maybe half red half brown to represent the cherry and the cola but they're all red.
Initially they have a lovely cherry flavour, it's not very strong but completely acceptable for a cherry Tic Tac. This quickly turns into a delicious cola flavour. The cola tastes just like a fizzy cola sweet - obviously they aren't fizzy but somehow they capture that flavour perfectly!
These are brilliant, they taste exactly as they claim to. Whenever I have bought Tic Tacs they've lasted me ages, I dip in and take a couple at a time but I was pouring these into my mouth! The box didn't last five minutes (it is small though) they were so addictive!

Rating 8/10 as a general snack, nibble or sweet treat.
10/10 for execution!

Cadbury special edition Mini Rolls

Cadbury release different editions of the Mini Rolls all the time, normally seasonal variations and they've recently introduced three new flavours - cola, banana and orange. I'm not a fan of chocolate and orange so I left that one (not that cola sounded any better!)
I won't bother writing about the actual Mini Rolls as they've been about forever and I think most people will have tried one.

I thought the cola edition was going to be disgusting, I wouldn't have bought it myself but my partner fancied trying them.
I could only smell chocolate when I opened the mini roll and even cutting into it there was no 'cola' scent. The filling is slightly pink and as normal there's quite a bit of it throughout. I find these so weird, the packet says they're really bubbly and I don't know if they meant that literally or it's just a tag line (the banana is best of the bunch apparently) but I didn't notice any bubbles.
I wasn't sure how cola flavour would translate into a cream filling but it does and it's actually not too bad! It tastes like cola bottles and while it's not too strong and maybe more of an aftertaste it's definitely there.
I'm so undecided on these, my brain says I shouldn't like them but I kind of did..

The banana I expected to love as I do with everything else banana flavoured. I've put two pictures up as no matter what I did, natural light/flash/no flash/away from the window, the filling looks neon yellow! It was nothing like this in reality and much more cream coloured with a hint of yellow.
I could smell the banana as soon as I opened the little individual packet and it smelt good, sadly the flavour didn't match up - it was not nice at all.
I don't normally mind strong artificial banana but there's something about this here that I just didn't enjoy. I still can't put my finger exactly on what I didn't like, but it didn't work for me.
That said while it was disgusting at the time, I've sat here fancying another one!! I don't even like them so who knows what they've put in there.....

Rating: No rating they've confused me!!!!
