Cheetos Crunchy - Cheese

Last year the UK got all excited as it was announced a pop culture favourite, Cheetos, were going to be sold properly again. I actually reviewed them at the time but I got the crap versions - the ones that are like Wotsits.
My local Tesco finally managed to sell the untold boxes of Oreos from the international aisle (seriously, who's buying those?! you can get them in the biscuit aisle for 1/4 of the price!!) and filled the empty space with two flavours of Cheetos Crunchy; Cheese and Cheddar JalapeƱo. I decided rather than buy a 6 pack of the UK ones I'd treat myself to an expensive but large, single bag shipped over from the good old U.S of A

It was looking like money well spent, for one thing the Americans aren't going to stand for crisp bags only filled a third of the way so this bag was packed out.
Everyone knows the reputation snacks from the US have for using unnatural flavourings and colourings and so I was disappointed and confused that there was no crazy cheese smell, just a plainish corn based snack like scent
I tipped the bag out to get a better look and the smell strengthened slightly but it wasn't an improvement. It now had a slightly stale/cheesey feet whiff. Not very appealing but never mind!
The colour came as no shock and the photo doesn't do it justice. Absolutely neon, in fact I'm sure if I'd switched the light off they'd have glowed in the dark!
Crazy colours and strange smells aside, these aren't bad. They are like crunchy Wotsits, in a good way - not like when they go a bit stale - but not quite as crunchy as a Nik Nak despite looking like one. They have a quite mild but perfectly pleasant cheese flavour, they certainly aren't as strong as the colour implies and a world away from what I expected. It's weird though, while they aren't as cheesey as I'd like and have a corn taste to them, the weird mismatch was disgustingly addictive. I couldn't get them down me quick enough!
Stange. In a good way, but they didn't live up to the hype.

Cheetos Puffs - Flamin' Hot

After the disappointment of the cheese Cheeto puffs yesterday I didn't have high hopes for the flamin' hot flavour. While I was comparing the cheese to a Wotsit, the flamin' hot has to meet up to the 'kids crisp' personal favourites of mine - Monster Munch flamin' hot and Nik Naks nice and spicy.

I did photograph the crisps themselves this time round as they were more on par with my expectations - pretty damn orange!
They smelt tangy opening the pack and for some reason the flamin' hot ones were slightly larger than the cheese. The flavour was quite nice, I wouldn't call it hot-hot I can't handle heat at all and these were fine for me until I got one puff which must have had far too much seasoning on it - my tongue burnt!!
In terms of 'heat' they're not as spicy as Monster Munch flamin' hot but I did enjoy these, they had a nice tang and were very moreish.

Cheetos Puffs - cheese flavour

Day three of my American week and I'm onto Cheetos Puffs. Another not new product (I'm not paying those import prices!) but new to me and I think, correct me if I'm wrong, one of the new to general sale in the UK Cheeto releases.
There are lots of different types of Cheeto available, Puffs, crunchy and so on. I'd certainly heard of Cheetos before I actually bought a multipack - they're another regular feature of American shows and films.
The Puffs are cheese flavoured corn puffs so basically an American Wotsit.
I didn't bother with a picture once I'd opened the individual packet as they look just like slightly less orange Wotsits.
Although they might have looked like a Wotsit and you could probably convince people they are to look at, once they'd tried one there would be no chance. Being American (although now EU rules might stop that) I expected strong, crazy, unnatural flavouring and smells but really all it was was a less cheesey Wotsit.
I normally write notes when I know I'm going to review something and I usually have to sit and pick through and make sense of all the thoughts I've had while I'm eating but my one and only note for the Cheetos Puffs is "less cheesey Wotsits".
You did get quite a few in the bag considering it's super light weight though so there's that.
