Tesco Pork & Herb Breakfast Patties

Half of you reading this will agree with the statement I'm about to make and half of you will want to climb through the screen and slap me.

 I don't really like McDonald's. 

There, I said it! It's not so much the taste (although a Whopper smashes a Big Mac hands down) it's the smell, the same way a lot of people say Subway shops smell funky - there's a weird smell in McDonald's that turns my stomach. It's not about during the hours they serve breakfast strangely, though neither am I normally, so I rarely get the chance to eat one of the only things I go out of my way for on the menu - the Sausage & Egg McMuffin. 

McDonald's in the USA have started selling all day breakfasts but we have to make sure we're up and out by 10.30am if we want some McMuffin goodness. Tesco have been pretty clever I think, they must have seen the outrage on Twitter that all day breakfast isn't coming to the UK just yet and they've released frozen Pork & Herb Breakfast Patties. 

Thanks to the age of health consciousness both Tesco and McDonald's provide the ingredients. 

McDonald's 

Pork Sausage Patty :

Pork (97%), Salt, Dextrose, Herb and Herb Extract, Glucose Syrup, Spice, Yeast Extract.

Tesco 

Pork (96%), Dextrose, Salt, Herbs (Sage, Parsley), Black Pepper, Preservative (Sodium Metabisulphite), Antioxidant (Ascorbic Acid), Spice Extracts (Black Pepper, Nutmeg, Coriander)

Surprisingly McDonald's actually have more pork than Tesco's! 

Lots of people eat at places like McDonald's for the convenience, although the Tesco sausages were frozen they're fairly thin, so took barely 5 minutes on the hot plate grill we used - I imagine in a George Foreman it'd be even quicker with direct heat from both sides. It was a hell of a lot quicker than it would have taken me to get in the car and drive to McDonald's anyway.

Taste wise they're not quite as good. The patties are a little under seasoned compared to the ones from McDonald's, they taste a little less herby and needed a bit more salt and pepper but they were very enjoyable otherwise. 

I felt like we were giving a big middle finger to McDonald's as we had these for dinner, no one tells us when we can and can't have a Sausage & Egg McMuffin! There was one big bonus and improvement for me that the Tesco version had though, and that was the fact that making (I can't even call it cooking - five minutes on a grill, a muffin in a toaster and waiting for an egg to fry barely counts) it myself meant I could finally have my McMuffin with a runny egg. A dripping yolk made any other version seem like dog food. We stuck with American style plastic cheese but there's a whole new world of different cheese types to try with it now too. 

Sausage alone, the McDonald's tastes better. As a whole package, this is the one for me. 

Plus I can make Mr.1T make them for me whenever I want now!
